Harissa is a spicy and flavorful North African chili paste that originated in Tunisia. It is made from a blend of roasted or dried hot chili peppers (usually red), garlic, olive oil, and spices such as cumin, coriander, and caraway. Some variations of harissa may also contain tomatoes, onions, and lemon juice.

Harissa is a versatile condiment, or ingredient, found in many North African and Middle Eastern dishes. Depending on the desired level of spiciness – use it sparingly for a mild heat, or add it generously for a fiery kick. It is perfect for stews, soups, couscous, and grilled meats. It adds a spicy and aromatic flavor to dishes, and can also be used as a spread on bread or crackers.

Bornibus began in Paris, France, back in 1855. Started by Alexandre Bornibus, his innovations for creating mustard and other condiments earned him fame within the industry; he would quickly become one of the leading and most important producers of mustard in the region, dubbed the “king of mustard.” In 1869, Le Petit Journal wrote: “This manufacturer, thanks to his unique processes, has managed to popularize mustard; he has succeeded in getting this condiment into every home.” Today, that tradition of innovation and quality continues with their expanded line of condiments, pickled treats, and charcuterie items.
