Murcia Al Vino, or The Drunken Goat, is made from local Murcian goat cheese. Murcian cheesemakers invented this cheese in 1986 in an attempt to create a distinct regional cheese with big commercial potential.
This particular Mitica cheese is bathed for three days in a local wine called Doble Pasta. After three months of aging, the Drunken Goat cheese develops a gorgeous purple rind and a sweet, smooth flavor. The result has been an unqualified success both commercially and gastronomically and has brought attention and capital to the region.
As with other Spanish cheeses, Queso de Murcia is delicious when eaten with beer, wine, or as a part of meal with fruits and nuts. The pate is semi-soft with small eyes, ivory white, slightly acidic, and creamy to taste. On the outside, the rind appears purple, characteristic of red wine baths during maturation.
Size: 12oz.
