Father’s day is a day to celebrate and honor the father figures in your life. In European and Latin Countries Father’s Day is typically celebrated in March on Saint Joseph’s Day, while in the USA it is celebrated on the third Sunday in June. The US version of the holiday was started back in 1910 by Sonora Smart Dodd to honor her Civil War veteran father who raised her and her five siblings as a single parent. However, it didn’t really catch on until 1966 when President L.B. Johnson issued the first presidential proclamation honoring fathers. Even then it took another six years to be signed into law by President R. Nixon and it became an official US holiday in 1972.
