Honestly, this is the best chocolate frosting and it is so incredibly easy to make. You will never buy store-bought pre-packaged frosting again! I certainly don’t.
On to the how-to!
Start by gathering all of your ingredients and kitchen tools.
Kitchen tools you will need:
- A mixing bowl
- An electric hand mixer (or stand mixer)
- Measuring tools
Ingredients you will need:
- 1 cup butter, softened
- 4 cups powdered sugar
- ¾ cups cocoa powder
- 2 tsp vanilla
- 1-2 tbsp milk
Instructions:
This recipe, like others than require room temperature butter, tend to irritate me as I almost always forget to leave the butter out to warm up. Creaming butter doesn’t work very well on hard cold butter or melted butter so try to remember to set your butter on the counter to come to room temperature well before you actually want to begin.
In a mixing bowl, add the butter, vanilla, powdered sugar, and cocoa powder.
Using a hand mixer, beat until fluffy and everything is fully combined.
If necessary, add the milk one tablespoon at a time until the frosting is the correct consistency. It should be light and airy.
Spread onto a cake or cupcakes with a knife, or pipe it on for a more polished look (both methods pictured).
… and enjoy!
